Gran Paradiso - normal route

Gran Paradiso - normal route

Classic mountaineering climb to the Gran Paradiso (4061 m), the only 4000m peak entirely in Italian territory. Elegant and panoramic peak in Aosta Valley

Informazioni aggiuntive

The climb to Gran Paradiso represents a must for every mountaineer or for those who simply want to experience the strong emotions of high altitude, surrounded by glaciers and breathtaking views. The peak reaches 4061 m above sea level and is a real balcony overlooking the Aosta Valley. At the top there is the famous statue of the Madonna but to reach it you must first tackle a route on the glacier with an ice axe and crampons (walking) and finally a short rocky section.

The climb takes place over 2 days, staying overnight and having dinner at Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II at 2735 m (or alternatively at Rifugio Chabod - 2710 m).

The normal route to this mountain does not present particular technical difficulties, but it requires good walking training and the ability to adapt to changing weather conditions at these altitudes.

  • Day 1: we will reach the locality of Pont in Valsavarenche valley (at 1950 m) and we will walk up to the Vittorio Emanuele II refuge at 2735 m (or alternatively at Chabod hut). About 2-2 h 30' of walk. Dinner and overnight stay.

  • Day 2: breakfast at dawn and ascent via the normal route toward the summit of Gran Paradiso (4061 m). Descent via the refuge and return home in the evening. About 8-9 hours of walking in this day.
