Pollux-Castore traverse at 4000 m

Pollux-Castore traverse at 4000 m

Pollux-Castore traverse, to collect 2 peaks over 4000 m of altitud, located in Val d'Aosta halfway between Monte Rosa, Cervino and Breithorn

Informazioni aggiuntive

It is a beautiful traverse in the heart of the 4000 m of Aosta Valley, which allows you to touch 2 peaks: Pollux at 4092 m and Castore at 4228 m. Two mountains that are well suited to a crossing, it is no coincidence that they have the name of the two inseparable twins, sons of Zeus.

The two peaks are usually climbed individually but people who are well trained in altitude and walking can try to climb them both on the same day, completing a magnificent circular tour. The climb also requires an overnight stay in the beautiful Guide Val d'Ayas refuge at 3425 m.The proposal shown here includes the ascent in 2 days, if you have other requests or questions do not hesitate to contact us via email or Whatsapp.

Schedule

Day 1: journey to Saint Jacques in Val d'Ayas (1700 m) and ascent to the Guide della Val d'Ayas refuge at 3425 m. It is possible to reduce the approach on foot (eliminating approximately 4.5 km and 700 m of altitude difference) by using the Jeep service, which deposits directly at the upper Pian di Verra (2380 m). From this location, in about 3 hours we reach the refuge, where we will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 2: breakfast before dawn and off towards the southern ridge of Pollux. After reaching the summit at 4092 m, with the help of some sections equipped with chains, we will descend for a while and then set off in the direction of the west face of Castore. A final steep snowy slope will lead us to the summit at 4225 m, the second peak of the day. With clear sky the view from here is truly breathtaking! A short break and we will then descend towards the Quintino Sella Refuge and then to Colle di Bettaforca (at 2700 m). From here with the ski lifts or the Jeep service we will return to the car.
