Cresta Signal Monte Rosa

Cresta Signal Monte Rosa

One of the most beautiful ridges in the Alps

Informazioni aggiuntive

The Signal Ridge (Cresta Signal) is considered one of the most beautiful ridges in the Alps, both for its elegance and for running along the south-eastern edge of the East Face of Monte Rosa, the Himalayan face of the Alps. With a long, solitary yet deeply rewarding route, it allows you to reach Punta Gnifetti at 4554 m, where the famous Capanna Margherita is located.

The ascent requires a long approach of about 2100 m (difference in altitude) on the first day to reach the Resegotti Bivouac at 3600 m, followed by a second day in which the approximately 950 m of the actual ridge are climbed. A true JOURNEY!

The climb is classified as “difficult” and includes sections of IV-grade rock climbing at altitudes above 4,000 m. Given the length and complexity of the ascent, it will only be undertaken after assessing the client’s abilities on the mountain (test climb/acclimatization).

Schedule

  • Day 1: From the Acqua Bianca parking area (Alagna Valsesia) at 1,500 m, the ascent leads to the Capanna Resegotti bivouac at 3624 m (20 places, unmanned; gas stove and blankets only), located on the ridge of Punta Tre Amici. A very long day, with approximately 6–8 hours of hiking and a total elevation gain of 2,150 m.

  • Day 2: From the Resegotti bivouac, the route initially follows a snowy ridge to reach the Signal Pass and the true start of the ridge. Depending on conditions, the climb usually continues over mixed terrain and then on the face up to Capanna Margherita at 4554 m. About 5–6 hours of ascent with an elevation gain of 930 m. The descent then follows the normal route down to Punta Indren, from where the cable car returns to Alagna.
